Book Review: Freefall (Custom Culture #1) by Tess Oliver

After leaving high school, with a hard won diploma and the title of most likely to break hearts, Alexander “Nix” Pierce has left his wild, out of control years mostly behind him. A small inheritance from his grandfather has given him the funds to open up his tattoo shop, Freefall, and he has started to pull his life together. Aside from trying to keep his best friend, Dray, from killing himself in the fight ring, and his slight obsession with a pin-up model he’s never met, Nix’s life is going smoothly . . . until Scotlyn James, the object of his obsession, walks into his shop.

Ever since a tragic accident killed her family and left her alone in the world, Scotlyn James hasn’t spoken one word. Up until now she didn’t care that she had no way of talking to people. Her awful aunt would never have listened, and Lincoln Hammond the arrogant, selfish man who pulled her from the streets of Los Angeles wouldn’t hear her words if she could speak. But when Lincoln insists she get a tattoo to cover up a scar on her side, Scotlyn meets the artist, Nix Pierce. And now she longs for her voice. Now she has found someone who will hear her.

My thoughts-

I’m surprised you made it down to the review and aren’t stuck staring at the book cover…so hot, right?! Well, the book is just as good!

I loved the premise of this book! Nix is obsessed with a girl and carries her picture around, yet has never met her. Scotlyn hasn’t spoken his a word since the accident that killed her family, and now she’s in too deep with a controlling asshole. They meet when Lincoln, Scotlyn’s boyfriend, decides she needs a tattoo to cover up a scar. She walks in the door or Nix’s tattoo shop and *fireworks*…well, at least for Nix!! Scotlyn takes a awhile to warm up to Nix, but she very quickly passes “warm” and is “hot” for Nix in the blink of an eye! To bad she’s with Mr. Controlling Asshole Lincoln.

Nix and Scotlyn are super cute together. It was really interesting and unique for one of the characters to be mute, it changed up the story some. I really enjoyed this book and look forward to more from this series!

My Nix and Scotlyn-

ARC Review: All He Needs (All of Nothing #2) by C.C. Gibbs

All He Needs is out December 17th! Pre-order here!

See my review for All He Wants (All of Nothing #1) right here!

All He Needs, book two of the All of Nothing trilogy, knocked my socks off! This book, like the first one, is off the charts steamy!! Dominic is my favorite alpha male of all alpha book boyfriends! (which is a big deal) Kate is witty and smart, a great female character. I love them together. Kate handles Dominic like a pro in this book, he even starts to mellow out some. Dominic spends most of the book trying to protect Kate from enemies unknown to her, so that he won’t lose her…but will he lose her because of his own decisions? I absolutely love this series and I can’t wait for the next book! I can’t give anything away, but i’m excited about what’s to come!

The cover art for this series is GORGEOUS!

My Dominic and Kate-

ARC Book Review: Storm Shells (Wishes #3) by G.J. Walker-Smith

The only way to move forward was to go back to the very beginning….

After three miserable weeks without Charli, Adam makes the decision to follow her, desperately hoping to find a way of following through on his promise of a happy ending. He finds her back in Pipers Cove, healing her broken heart by spending time with the one person who never lets her down. Both know nothing has changed. They’re desperately in love, hopelessly stuck in limbo, and unable to find common ground. When fate offers them a chance at a different kind of ending, it’s a one-shot deal. Running with it means changing their plans – something neither of them has ever been willing to do before, even for each other. Just as one begins to find their way, the other completely loses direction – and neither of them realise that time is running out.

My thoughts-

Writing reviews for my favorite book is the hardest thing. Like, i’ve put this off for days because every time I think about writing this review…I get nervous!!! I know I can’t possibly put into words how much I love this series and the new book, Storm Shells, but i’m going to try! Especially since it’s getting released in the next 48ish hours! I know that the release date is November 11th, but on itunes it will be released on the 10th. So depending on where you live and what device you use, start looking for it soon!

So back to my review… I was really upset at the end of Second Hearts. Charli had left New York, and even though this was a good decision, my heart still hurt for her and Adam. Adam was such a dumb guy…I wanted to smack him upside the head! How could he just let her walk away?! Didn’t he know she was the best thing that had ever happened to him?! So Charli heads back to Kaimte, where Mitchell is. She finds some solace in the beach and her old friend, but after a week decides to head back home to Pipers Cove. Upon arriving, she finds Gabi has moved in with Alex and they are struggling with issues of their own. Charli now feels out of place in her childhood home and decides to move into the cottage.

Adam is staying with Ryan, his brother, because he couldn’t bear all the reminders of Charli in their apartment. It takes him three weeks of being miserable before he decides to go after her.

In Pipers Cove they are faced with their true love for each other, but also that they haven’t found out a way to make their lives work together. They must both be willing to sacrifice and change their own plans, which they’ve never been willing to do before now. It is so heart wrenching to see them struggling with these decisions. Will they be able to find common ground?

This whole series is incredible, and I highly recommend you start from the beginning. GJ has this insane talent to write such relatable, believable characters, you can’t help but be absorbed into this story. She weaves this element of magic and La La Land into this series, you fall in love with the way that Charli lives her life so completely. When you’re done you can’t help but to be more like Charli, enjoying life to its fullest and being honest, courageous and passionate.

Adam, Ryan, Alex and Gabi are all in this book. I love Ryan and can’t wait for his to get his own story. Also, Alex and Gabi have their own book now too! It’s called Sand Jewels and is available for free on itunes. For all you kindle users, if you have an iphone you can download ibooks and read it on there!

I can’t tell you how much I love this book. It is my most favorite series of all time! You must go read it!

Check out my character interview with Charli and a sneak peek of Storm Shells here!

**Thank you so much to Gemma for the ARC copy! I truly appreciate the opportunity to read your beautiful book!!

At least, that’s what he thought until his accountant stole everything and disappeared. Interpol has no idea where to start, and neither does the American F.B.I., so Sam figures he’ll just have to take care of his body and play a few extra years to make it back.

When Blair Paddington, the accountant’s daughter and a friend of a friend at Whitman, shows up and claims she can help Sam get his money back he’s torn between wanting justice and the very real possibility that Blair is just as big a con man as her father. When she promises not only money, but justice, Sam agrees—but only if he can go along on the search.

In spite of Blair’s shady family, her daring and resourceful personality strike Sam’s interest and he finds himself falling for the one girl he shouldn’t.

When they finally find her father, the truths that come to light not only make Sam question his affection for Blair, but could cost him more than money—if they can’t work together one last time, neither of them may be going home. Ever.

lylaI’ve long had a love of stories. A few years ago decided to put them down on the page, and even though I have a degree in film and television, novels were the creative outlet where I found a home. I’ve published Young Adult under a different name, but when I got the idea for Broken at Love (my first New Adult title), I couldn’t wait to try something new – and I’m hooked.  In my spare time I watch a ton of tennis (no surprise, there), play a ton of tennis, and dedicate a good portion of brain power to dreaming up the next fictitious bad boy we’d all love to meet in real life.

Book Review: Slow Surrender (Struck by Lightning #1) by Cecilia Tan

He pushes her sexual boundaries . . .

From the moment waitress Karina meets him in a New York bar, she knows James is different. Daring. Dominating. Though he hides his true identity from her, the mysterious, wealthy businessman anticipates her every desire and fulfills her secret fantasies. Awakened by his touch, Karina discovers a wild side she hadn’t known existed and nothing is off limits.

She aches for more . . .

What begins as an erotic game soon escalates to a power play that blurs the line between pleasure and pain. Even as she capitulates to James’s sensual demands, Karina craves more. She wants his heart, his soul. She wants his love . . . and she’ll break all the rules to get it.

My thoughts-

Well…this one had a crazy start and I was like “NU HUH…NO WAY…WHA…OHHHHHHHH…!” I hope that made sense…it certainly will if you read this book! I liked the “game” storyline that drove this book, it was fun and sexy. I also liked how mysterious James is. Quite a few names and identities are thrown out there that I’m not exactly sure who he is but I’m sure the next book will clear things up. I’m not sure I liked Becks, she was strange. The ending is a cliffhanger and the next book doesn’t come out until January 28, 2014. Bummer. The ending did feel weird. (Spoiler alert?!) Typically, at a cliffhanger it’s the guy who has “wronged” the girl and we have to wait to see if he will atone for his mistakes and she’ll take him back. But, in this book it’s Karina who has pushed James too far and she’s left wondering if she’ll ever see him again. (After you read this book, go read the summary for book 2! I was like “OH NOOOO!!!”)  haha

Hold on for a minute while I bring out my soapbox…

I hate to bring this up (because so many others have) but yes, this book has a few similarities to Fifty Shades of Gray. But goodness gracious…if every new book written after FSOG had absolutely NO similarities…there would be NO books in this genre anymore!! Do we really want FSOG to be the last? No! So there will be more naïve girls, more mysterious millionaire bachelors and more lessons on domination. Get over it!

Book Review: Inhale, Exhale by Sarah M. Ross

Jillian had a plan: celebrate the end of her first year of college with an amazing summer full of beaches, barbeques, and bonfires. When her mom insists she needs a summer job, and her boyfriend spends more time with his band than with her, Jillian’s plans go down the drain.

Grant had a plan: finish his Masters, get a great job at Google, and get the hell out of Georgia. He might be giving up some of the fun of his youth, but he knows his all work and no play method would be worth it when his dreams came true.

But things never go according to plan.

When temptation brings them together and tragedy tears them apart, Jillian and Grant will be forced to choose: fight for their dreams, or fight for each other.

My thoughts-

This book made me do a happy dance!! It was entertaining, sexy and fun with just enough drama and character that don’t annoy the socks off you! Jillian is your normal girl next door type. I totally related to her because I’ve been stuck helping at my mom’s office during the summer and have totally dreaded it! I loved Grant because he’s nerdy and hot. What totally made this book was the off the charts sexual chemistry!! I went back and looked at the notes I made in my kindle when I read this book and a note said “holy crap the sexual tension is hot!” haha!! Grant is such a sweetie; I loved how he called her cupcake. This is definitely a sweet read, quick, but good!!

If you know anything about me, you know that I adore Kristen Ashley and every book she’s every written! So you can imagine how excited I was when I got an advanced reading copy of Jagged on NetGalley! I was thrilled!!

Jagged does not disappoint! It was pure KA goodness down to a sexy alpha male and a strong witty female lead! YAYYYYYYYY!!! Zara is so independent, I love that about her! She might have made mistakes in her past, but she is doing her best and taking care of her self! The sexual chemistry between Graham and Zara is so thick you could cut it with a knife! And thank goodness…I was betting on some hot love scenes!!

Book Review: Escape in You by Rachel Schurig

Jet Taylor is the quintessential bad boy. A womanizer. A fighter. Dangerous. The type of guy most girls do their best to avoid. But Zoe Janes is no saint herself. In fact, she sees in Jet the perfect opportunity to distract herself from her responsibilities at home and the mistakes that keep her trapped there. He’s gorgeous, likes to party, and is clearly only interested in having fun—just like Zoe.

The more time they spend together, the harder it is for Zoe to stick to her “fun only” mantra. Jet is getting under her skin, making her believe things could actually be different. She knows they’re both trapped by the sins of their past but Jet is starting to make her think freedom might actually be possible.

And that makes him the most dangerous boy of all.

My thoughts-

This story was about two people who are so stuck in their situations that they’ve given up. Both of their families have dealt with very hard things in the past and Taylor and Zoe have been left to handle most of the burden. When these two kindred souls find each other they are able to find a brief reprieve from the torture of their reality. They both try to deny their feelings for each other, but when things get tough it becomes apparent how much they’ve come to rely on each other and things start to fall apart.

First of all, I love Rachel Schurig!! She wrote Lovestruck in London and like I said in my review, I loved it!! I loved this book too! It was well thought out and beautifully written. It dealt with some tough subjects with finesse and I loved how it ended. They were both very tortured souls and I liked that together they were able to let go and be themselves. This book is steamier than Lovestruck in London and I think Schurig did a great job! There was tons of chemistry between Taylor and Zoe! My only complaint would be that it dragged a tiny bit in the middle, but picked back up quickly and the pace stayed up for the rest of the book. Overall, well done!!

My Taylor and Zoe-

Release Day Launch, Excerpt and Review: Greed (The Seven Deadly #2) by Fisher Amelie

You could win a signed copy of VAIN, Book 1 in the series, or a Kindle Fire!

ABOUT GREED (Book 2 in the Seven Deadly Series):
Gather ‘round, love, because I want you. I want what you have, I want what you don’t have, I want more of what I already have. I want. But if you so much as ask for something in return, go ahead and walk away. Know if you want to play in my world, it’s every man for themselves and the weak become mine. Leeches will be obliterated because I make it my job to destroy them. I protect what’s mine and I take what’s yours…because that’s what I do. I want.
My story will not endear me to you and, frankly, I could care less if it does because I’m in this for the money and nothing else. There’s nothing redeeming about me. I’m a corrupt, money hungry, immoral asshole from Los Angeles. I’m every man’s worst nightmare and every girl’s fantasy.
I’m Spencer Blackwell…And this is the story about how I went from the world’s most coveted guy to the guy no one wanted around and why I wouldn’t trade it for anything in the world.

Greed is a strange, strange sin.

All you want to do is acquire. Acquire money, acquire material, acquire time, acquire energy, acquire attention. The running mantra is “I want, I want, I want” but that quickly turns to “I need, I need, I need.”
Suddenly there just isn’t enough time for friends, for family, for anyone. Your goal is to acquire and to make sure what you acquire stays acquired. Your life depends on it. You don’t see truth because the truth is shadowed by enormous homes, incredibly fast cars, in lavish spending. Your life no longer belongs to you, but you are blind to it all because those around you are seeking the same.

So you shuffle along at an impossible rate, and you pass the real world around you.

But what you’ll come to realize, altogether too late, is that it’s never enough. It’s simply never enough.

Chapter One

“It’s confirmed. Peter Knight of Evergreen won’t approve the acquisition. You know what to do,” my snake of a father told me, not two steps into his front door.

“I just got off a seven-hour flight. You can’t let me settle in? Possibly say hello?”

He stood, watching me, a slight tick in his square jaw. He tucked his hands into his Italian silk pants. His six-foot frame followed the steps up to the foyer and stopped a few inches away from my own. We were face to face. Although I fell an inch shorter, he no longer intimidated me. I knew if I had to, I could kick his ass.

“Hello, Spencer,” he said, a serpent’s smile spread wide across his mouth before falling flat. “Get to work. I don’t pay you to sit around. I don’t care if it is your Christmas break.”

We stayed where we were, each waiting on the other to back down. The tension was palpable. In the end, his face relaxed and he began to chuckle, stepping aside and making way for me. I picked up my bags and headed for my room, giving myself plenty of space to pass him without touching him.
When I got to the bottom of the stairs, I changed my mind and threw my bags on the second to last step, intending to pick them up later. I stretched my muscles, loving the feel of my back popping, and started for the kitchen.

“Where the hell do you think you’re going?” he asked, still standing in the foyer, watching my every move.

“If I don’t say hi to Mom and Bridge, they’ll think something’s up,” I told him and continued on.

He didn’t respond, but I felt his stare burning into the back of my head.

My thoughts-
Just like Vain, this book was incredible! I don’t have enough good words to say about this book!! I’m in love with Spencer! His growth throughout the book is incredible and I adore the man he becomes. He becomes so selfless and noble, it’s really inspiring. Cricket was so feisty. You could tell she was hiding something and it was eating her up inside. I felt torn for her for about 30% of the book and the remaining 70% I was ready to push her into his arms myself!! Overall, the characters, writing, plot, and lesson…it was STUNNING!! Fisher, you and your characters have my heart!!

ARC Review: Searching for Someday (Love Spells #1) by Jennifer Probst

Searching for Someday by Jennifer Probst will be available on November 26th! Pre-order it here!

Kate has given up on love—at least for herself. She is both blessed and cursed with the ability to sense a romantic connection between two people—a gift that her family passed down for generations. When Kate launches her own matchmaking company, Kinnection, with her two best friends in a cozy New York town, she has to put aside her own romantic disasters to make her business a success.

But when a furious man stalks into her office and accuses her business of being a scam, Kate is given the ultimate challenge to prove herself. Slade puts himself in her hands and asks Kate to find him love. Enraged at his arrogance but stubbornly eager to prove herself, Kate agrees, dedicating herself to the journey of finding him love…only to find herself falling for him along the way.

My thoughts-

Three words to describe this book- Fun. Fanciful. Sexy.

Fun- This book is chock-full of fun, silly, witty and hilarious characters!! Kate and her besties are a hoot together and her mother is unbelievably funny. Slade has a humor all his own and I laughed at him almost as much as a wanted to kiss him!

Fanciful- haha duh!! Kate has a special match-making power! Now, this wasn’t ridiculous or sci-fi feeling, it was just good’ol fanciful magic and I loved it!

Sexy- um yes. This book had tons of sexual chemistry! It was super steamy. There is so much back and forth between Kate and Slade, it’s a lot of fun to read the push and pull. They rile each other up so many times just to leave each other wanting, but it pays off eventually!

Loved this quote from Kate’s mom-

“You must be fierce and admit to love, my dear girl. It is the only way to win. And if you do lose, well, at least you lose fairly, with your head high and with no regrets.”

I highly recommend you pre-order this book! I can’t wait for more in the series!!

My Slade and Kate-
